Joe Folsom serves as the Executive Director of the Pierce County Economic Development Corporation working to improve the environment for business and job growth, sustainability, and quality of life in Pierce County. He is a certified SCORE mentor since February 2016 and Branch Manager of the Western Wisconsin Branch of Twin Cities SCORE providing mentoring and training for entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Joe retired from the U.S Small Business Administration in the fall of 2014 after serving as its Des Moines District Director responsible for all aspects of the agency’s programs in Iowa from 2004 to 2014. This included lending programs, government contracting and business development, entrepreneurial development and assisting the office of disaster assistance in times of disaster.
Prior to the SBA Joe worked at the USDA Rural Development/Farmers home Administration for 27 years in Minnesota. His work responsibilities included farm, housing, community infrastructure, business, cooperative, and community development programs from county office through state office level.
He is a graduate of St. Cloud State University with a Master’s degree in Business Administration and the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Agricultural Economics and Animal Science.
